Meetings of the Bogata church were first held in a small building located in the area of the present Community House. After a while the congregation moved to a larger building on North Main Street which had been built by the Presbyterians and was shared by several congregations. In the fall of 1900 a new Methodist church building was completed in a wooded area on present day North Howison St. On January 17, 1912 a lot across the street from the Church was purchased and a parsonage constructed.
In 1918 through the efforts of Rev. Claude Adams, plans were made and the necessary funds were raised to build the present red brick structure. A 75'x120' lot on North Main Street was donated by Dr. W. H. Grayson and his wife Celestial Agnes (Miss Lessie), being the southwest corner of their homestead. The sanctuary is lined with beautiful stained glass windows, each having been a memorial donation.
In March of 1987 a 100 Year Celebration was held.
Through the years some remodeling has been done to the original building. Other property has been acquired and additional buildings constructed primarily through local donations and volunteer labor. In 1961 Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Lowry whose property adjoined the Church donated a 10'x75' strip of the property to make room for an education building. A building containing Sunday school rooms and two restrooms was constructed and attached to the main building by an enclosed breezeway. Later, the remainder of the Lowry property was purchased and the house removed to allow space for a parking area.
In 1978 a lot on North Main St. across from the Church was purchased and a new four bedroom, 2 1/2 bath brick parsonage was built. The old parsonage on Howison Street was sold. An extensive redecoration and updating project and the addition of a utility room to the present parsonage was recently completed.
In 1985 a lot at the corner of N. Main and NE 2nd Street, across the street from the church, was purchased with an eye to later expansion. In 1992 a Fellowship Hall was constructed on this site. All funds needed for this building were already donated or pledged before construction was begun.
In 1998 a house and lot on the north side of the church was purchased and converted to a church office and library.
A total of fifty-two ministers have served the Bogata charge. Other congregations which have been a part of the Bogata Charge include Rugby, Johntown, Rosalie, Cuthand and Lone Star. At present only Bogata and Rosalie are included.
Members continue to be dedicated to expansion and improvement of the church facilities and to the mission of "Making Disciples of Jesus Christ."
